Your adventure into the professional levels of recreational diving begins with the PADI Divemaster Certification program. Working closely with a PADI Instructor, in this program you expand your dive knowledge and hone your skills to the professional level. PADI Divemaster training develops your leadership abilities, qualifying you to supervise dive activities and assist instructors with student divers.
What is required?
- Minimum age – 18 years old
- PADI Advanced Open Water Diver certification (or equivalent from another training organization) with 20 or more logged dives
- PADI Rescue Diver (or equivalent from another training organization)
- Valid Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR - Primary Care) within past 24 months (or Emergency First Responder)
- Valid Basic First Aid (Secondary Care) within past 24 months (or Emergency First Responder)
- Show proof of 60 logged dives documenting experience in night diving, deep diving and underwater navigation by end of the training schedule

PADI Divemaster Theory/Knowledge Segment

Independent Study
Twelve topics make up the Knowledge Development module. You'll cover them through independent study, projects, and discussions. Your independent study will include reading the Divemaster Manual and completing the Knowledge Reviews, plus use of materials such as the PADI Divemaster Video, the Encyclopedia of Recreational Diving, the Diving Knowledge Workbook...
In the theory classroom
Your instructor will also hold sessions to provide more information, to check your progress, hold discussions and give you an opportunity to discuss and ask questions about what you're learning. This may range from formal classroom sessions, to meeting in a dive center, aboard a boat or on shore, to one-on-one discussions.

3. Diving Knowledge Workbook
This knowledge workbook serves as a guide to enhance and evaluate your knowledge of recreational diving. While the answer to each question is given in the workbook, its purpose is not to function as a complete reference manual. Instead, you will find that each objective in the workbook is followed by a “resource” statement which directs you to the appropriate section in other PADI texts for review and further learning. The books referenced are:

PADI Divemaster Water skills and Stamina Segment
Your adventure into the professional levels of recreational diving begins with the PADI Divemaster Certification program. Working closely with a PADI Instructor, in this program you expand your dive knowledge and hone your skills to the professional level. PADI Divemaster training develops your leadership abilities, qualifying you to supervise dive activities and assist instructors with student divers.
In the training pool
The Water Skills and Stamina module has two goals: to develop and evaluate your overall water skills and stamina, and to improve upon your existing scuba skills. You'll complete several timed swims and other exercises in confined water, and you will refine your basic scuba skills so that you can role model with beginning divers learning those skills.

- 400 meter Swim without using swimming aid and using any stroke (nonstop)
- 15 minute tread using no aids last two minute hands out of the water
- 800 meter nonstop snorkel swim using mask snorkel and fins (without using hands)
- 100 meter inert diver tow at the surface both wearing full scuba equipment (nonstop)

Diver rescue assessment and development
This exercise is the simulated rescue of an unresponsive, nonbreathing diver. -

Confined water skill assessment and development
Developing demonstration quality skills and performing the 20 basic scuba skills:
- Equipment assembly, adjustment, preparation, donning and disassembly
- Predive safety check (BWRAF)
- Deep water entry
- Buoyancy check at surface
- Snorkel-regulator/regulator snorkel exchange
- Five point descent
- Regulator recovery and clearing
- Mask removal, replacement and clearing
- Air depletion exercise and alternate air source use stationary
- Freeflow regulator breathing
- Fin pivot (neutral buoyancy)

PADI Divemaster Practical Application Segment

Working closely with a PADI Instructor, in this program you expand your dive knowledge and hone your skills to the professional level. PADI Divemaster training develops your leadership abilities, qualifying you to supervise dive activities and assist instructors with student divers.
The Practical Application
The Practical Application module allows you to learn and practice divemaster skills by applying what you learn during the Knowledge Development and Water Skills and Stamina modules. You'll start by completing three requiered training exercises and you will have a chance to develop and practice divemaster skills with actual divers during an Intership.

These exercises develop the candidate’s organizational and problem solving skills
- Mapping Project (dive site)
- Equipment Exchange (exchanging all scuba equipments except exposure suit and weight)
- Divemaster Conducted Programs (Discover snorkeling, Scuba review, Discover local diving, Discover scuba diving program, PADI Skin diver program)

The second part has two options:
Internship: The Internship options allows candidates to work with real students or divers
- Organize the predive setup of equipment by Open Water Diver students for confined water and open water training
- Coordinate student diver flow during confined and open water training dives
- Participate confined and open water sessions
- Participate PADI Adventures in Diving, Rescue Diver or PADI Specialty Diver
Practical Training Exercises: During Practical Training Exercises, candidates gain experience while simulating assisting and supervisory roles
- Assisting open water diver students in confined water
- Lead student divers on an underwater tour for pleasure with the direct supervision of Instructor
